The ScribeConcepts publishing project management network anticipates a number of opportunities for client projects in the coming months. We need freelance style editors, copyeditors, proofreaders, formatters, and quality control checkers to achieve our goals.

We knit professionals together remotely across time zones and backgrounds to deliver high-quality work through every phase of the content production process. If you are an independent contractor with expertise and availability, please submit your interest here: https://scribe.ink/editorial-team-application. A Google account will be required to submit. Qualified candidates will be scheduled for interviews and required to complete a short vetting task for the role. When selected, you will be virtually onboarded and required to complete nondisclosure and business agreements. Invoices for payment are submitted at the beginning of each month for the previous month’s work and are paid by direct deposit within 30 days.

Style Editor (Lead Style Editor)

Experience with educational curriculum publishing required

Support content editors on writer template setup

Work with clients to define editorial style and create and revise in-house style guides

Have familiarity with major style guides, including Chicago Manual of Style and MLA

Review manuscripts for adherence to editorial style before copyediting

Review copyedits and proofreading markup, and conduct final checks of files before release to publish

Provide guidance and feedback to writers, copyeditors, proofreaders, and formatters

Use digital tools for markup (e.g., track changes in Google Docs, PDF markup and commenting tools) and communication (e.g., Slack, Asana)

Mastery is not necessary, but ability to adapt to the tools used by clients is a must

Must complete a vetting task in Google Docs and PDF to confirm attention to detail and editing skills

Copyeditor

Experience with educational curriculum publishing required

Address issues of clarity, consistency, accuracy, style, and formatting in adherence to client-specific style guide

Have familiarity with major style guides, including Chicago Manual of Style and MLA

Use digital tools for markup (“track changes” in Word, Google Docs, InCopy, PowerPoint, or Google Slides documents) and communication (e.g., Slack, Asana)

Mastery is not necessary, but ability to adapt to the tools used by clients is a must

Must complete a vetting task in Google Docs and PDF to confirm attention to detail and editing skills

$35.00 to $45.00/hr
Proofreader

Address issues of consistency, grammar, accuracy, and style in adherence to client-specific style guide

Use digital tools for markup (e.g., track changes in Google Docs, PDF markup and commenting tools) and communication (e.g., Slack, Asana)

Mastery is not necessary, but ability to adapt to the tools used by clients is a must

Provide edits via PDF, PowerPoint, or Google Slides markup

Must complete a vetting task in Google Docs and PDF to confirm attention to detail

Formatter

Check and fix editorial styles in Word or Excel documents (or Google file equivalents)

Transfer data from various Microsoft formats while ensuring fidelity from source to destination

Quality Control Checker

Check files against a checklist or a previous proof to confirm it is ready to move to the next stage in a process

Review and edit file names to ensure adherence to established file naming convention

Manage and conduct file transfers, including confirming that all files are accounted for and correctly named
